After 30 years of use, my old KitchenAid mixer meat grinder attachment was kaput. I tried to find replacement parts, but they did not exist. When I looked at the new version I was disappointed to find most of it is now plastic, and the cutting disc was so flimsy I was very sure it would not last. I have been grinding my own beef, veal and pork from grocery store meat for a long time — never anything with bones. This is built like my old grinder, with the advantage of a larger hopper and cutting discs, a third disc (KA only had/has 2), sausage making attachment, and the reverse switch. I have never made sausage but now will try that option. My first use turned 8 pounds of roast into burger-ready meat in less than 5 minutes. It took longer to set up and clean/store! I am not wild about the plastic “pusher” so kept my wooden one from the old KA unit. But I’m sure the plastic one would work so certainly wouldn’t consider that a negative. Took the advice of another reviewer and washed and dried the disc and blade quickly (put in low oven to dry), and stored in rice. Just checked and it is pristine.
