After 30 years of use, my old KitchenAid mixer meat grinder attachment was kaput. I tried to find replacement parts, but they did not exist. When I looked at the new version I was disappointed to find most of it is now plastic, and the cutting disc was so flimsy I was very sure it would not last. I have been grinding my own beef, veal and pork from grocery store meat for a long time — never anything with bones. This is built like my old grinder, with the advantage of a larger hopper and cutting discs, a third disc (KA only had/has 2), sausage making attachment, and the reverse switch. I have never made sausage but now will try that option. My first use turned 8 pounds of roast into burger-ready meat in less than 5 minutes. It took longer to set up and clean/store! I am not wild about the plastic “pusher” so kept my wooden one from the old KA unit. But I’m sure the plastic one would work so certainly wouldn’t consider that a negative. Took the advice of another reviewer and washed and dried the disc and blade quickly (put in low oven to dry), and stored in rice.
